In Bali, Indonesia, people with disabilities (PWDs) face a multitude of challenges. From a lack of accessibility which limits their ability to go places, even to be in schools, to not being included in society as they are seen as “cursed”. Seeing a need for change, a group of PWDs banded together to set up Cahaya Mutiara Ubud, a foundation on a mission to help other PWDs gain access to the skills and opportunities to allow them to be productive members of society. One key initiative is the setting up of a dormitory that allows PWDs to live together in an inclusive living space, to provide solidarity, companionship, and independence so that they live dignified lives.
